Don Sr., a long time union pipe & steam fitter with an extensive background in HVA/C decided that he had served his time in the union and was done working for the “man.” So began his new journey and in 1975 Dorrian Heating & Cooling, Inc. was founded. When he started the business, he was the owner, president, installer, service tech, dispatch and accountant. From time to time, he had help from his son Don Jr. and wife Pat. When Don Jr. graduated high school, he then became a full-time employee of the family business. Business was focused primarily on commercial work but also dabbled in the residential side. As the company grew, Don Sr. hired additional help to keep up with the workload.
In 1984, Don Sr. decided he ought to start planning for retirement and approached Don Jr. with the plan for Don Jr. to eventually take over the company and continue on with the family business. Don Jr. agreed and begin accepting stock in the company to which he now owns 100%.
Don Jr. has grown the company significantly since 1984; from 2 employees and 2 trucks to as many as 25 employees and a fleet of service vehicles. Business today consists of residential, commercial, city & state work, new construction as well as replacements, tenant build-outs, geothermal, fireplaces & commercial refrigeration. Dorrian maintains approximately 1500 residential & commercial annual maintenance contracts.
Future growth is planned as Dorrian is aggressively seeking out additional custom home builders, replacement work, and commercial work. This will be a controlled growth and analyzed closely. Job costing will be done on a regular basis to assess profit margins, productivity, and efficiency. Dorrian is also looking at measures to minimize overhead & increase the overall profitability of the company and savings for our clients.
